The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
